Our Player/Volunteer Awards
AHIHA presents awards to staff, volunteers and players each summer at the hockey school, Staff awards are presented at the Wednesday evening banquet and the player awards are presented at the end of the hockey school on Saturday afternoon.
The Gunzo Trophy
The Gunzo Trophy, awarded annually to the AHIHA staff member who best symbolizes Gunzo’s spirit and energy, is the highest award that can be received by anyone in the organization’s volunteer ranks. The inscription on the award is short and to the point: “He gave of himself.”
Tom White Memorial Award
Tom White was a very special person. He was a good friend, a hard worker and an extremely courageous individual - the very qualities AHIHA looks for in an individual when selecting an annual recipient for the Tom White Memorial Award. This award is traditionally presented to a Varsity Team player.
The Nick Wehrling Award
The Nick Wehrling Award is presented to a Junior Varsity player who demonstrates strength and a willing spirit.
I Love You Medallion
The I Love You Medallion is awarded to the staff member/volunteer who shows a giving heart.
The Jacki Marcus Scholarship
Jacki Marcus was always there when you needed an extra hand. She was a great supporter of the AHIHA Parent’s group, always willing to help where needed and was always the first one to sign-up to participate in our Friday night party games! She had a great love for the deaf community and the sport of hockey. The Jacki Marcus Award is awarded to a female player who exhibits a great love for the sport of hockey and has a willingness to step-up when the need arises.
Other Awards
Hockey players participating in the hockey school work very hard to improve their skills. Awards are presented to each level of hockey player in three areas:
- Most Improved Player
- Most Outstanding Skater
- Most Outstanding Player
